Reward Offered In Fatal Hit-and-Run Newark Crash: Authorities

It has been three years since 42-year-old Rajon Collins was fatally struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in Newark.

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Essex County Sherriff Armando Fontoura announced on Thursday, Nov. 21, a $5,000 Crime Stoppers Program reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the fatal crash.

Collins was struck near Springfield Avenue and South 18th Street on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, authorities said. Collins was hit by a red Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been reported stolen and was traveling at a high rate of speed, authorities said.

Collins was later pronounced dead at Rutgers University Hospital, authorities said.

Surveillance camera footage from the area shows two individuals fleeing from the vehicle after the crash, authorities said.
